Wide Bay Social Work Services offers Specialised Mental Health counselling support from our Accredited Mental Health Social Worker.

Our Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) is eligible to provide services through the Commonwealth-funded Better Access to Mental Health Care and Chronic Diseases Management (Enhanced Primary Care) programs.  Our Accredited Mental Health Social Worker has experience in assessing and treating people who have mental health disorders, for example people with:

Our Accredited Mental Health Social Worker helps individuals to resolve their presenting psychological problems, the associated social and other environmental problems, and improve their quality of life. This may involve family as well as individual counselling, and group therapy. Our Accredited Mental Health Social worker recognises the broader implications of an individual having a mental illness and the impact on friends, family, work and education.

Like other allied health professionals, such as psychologists, our Accredited Mental Health Social Worker uses a range of interventions in helping people with mental health disorders, including the following focused psychological strategies:

See your Doctor, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist for a mental health care plan and referral to our Accredited Mental Health Social Worker.  You may be eligible for up to 10 visits per calendar year.

These services are available in our office or your own home.

Where other service providers may charge a gap, Wide Bay Social Work Services offers full bulk billing to all clients under this program.

Services availability is flexible and outside business hours appointments are available. 

Cost: $75 per hour.

Do you hold a Gold or White card?  Do you need assistance with any of the following:

• Specialised Mental Health Counselling
• General counselling and case management;
• service co-ordination and facilitating access to community services;
• referral and advocacy;
• education and information;
• vocational and employment counselling or rehabilitation;
• accommodation and placement assistance; and
• family therapy with specific focus on veteran wellbeing.

Wide Bay Social Work Services can assist entitled persons with a wide range of family, health, employment, income support or accommodation related issues or stressful life events.  

See your Medical Professional for a referral to Wide Bay Social Work Services.  Your DVA Gold or White card is accepted as full payment for the above services.

Need help with future planning?  Finding it hard to navigate the aged care or disability system? 

Wide Bay Social Work Services has staff experienced in aged and disability care and are pleased to offer other services including respite, social support, future planning and accessing permanent and respite placements.  We hold National Criminal History Checks and full insurances.  If you are currently receiving a package of care, we are happy to work with your existing service provider in the provision of your care.

Wide Bay Social Work can assist individuals and their families during transitioning life events with practical and emotional support to reduce fear and anxiety associated with change.  Moving, selling, downsizing, decluttering, packing and sorting can be a daunting task as we get older.  In many cases there is no nearby family available to assist.  Wide Bay Social Work Services can tailor make a package to assist with this process.

For employers looking for an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or debriefing for staff following a critical incident, Wide Bay Social Work Services can help.  Providing your employees with access to counselling can help reduce sick leave, poor work performance, workplace stress and can increase productivity.
